Against all odds, people are hoping that a new rumor is true and Hugh Jackman will make an appearance in the highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame. Google, the all-knowing search engine, has only egged on these impossible hopes. When one looks up “famous Hugh Jackman movies,” Avengers: Endgame shows up alongside Jackman’s hit films such as Les Miserables and the X-Men movies. An explanation for this internet absurdity is probably that Google’s algorithm combined Hugh Jackman and the final Avengers film because of how commonly the two have been associated as of late.
The X-Men films featuring Wolverine still belong to Fox. Disney hasn’t quite sealed the deal with 20th Century Fox yet, so Marvel has no rights over the Wolverine character. Only when the deal is finalized will Marvel own the film rights to Wolverine, Deadpool, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four. Moreover, Hugh Jackman retired from the X-Men franchise in 2017 following Logan. While the possibility of Wolverine showing up in a film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t ruled out and Hugh Jackman could be part of a brief cameo, it certainly doesn’t look likely to happen.
Clearly, the trailer for the Avengers: Infinity War sequel showed no sign of Hugh Jackman. But the movie will no doubt be loaded with surprises. Endgame finds the reunited Avengers, including Captain America, Black Widow, Ant-Man, and Hawkeye, teaming up against powerful foe Thanos. They will have to use all the heroic manpower (and womanpower) they can muster to defeat this mighty super-villain.
Avengers: Endgame arrives in theaters on April 26, 2019.
