The Original RoboCop Not To Return?

Do you remember the original RoboCop? The over-the0top hard R violence with the constant satire and awesome one liners cemented its place as a classic 80’s action movie. Well, after a series of sequels and one 2014 reboot that all have failed to live up to the original, a sequel named RoboCop Returns aims to buck that trend.

Neil Blomkamp, director of the critically acclaimed District 9 has teamed up with Justin Rhodes who is writing an upcoming Terminator reboot to create the next film in the RoboCop catalogue. Blomkamp revealed through a tweet that he wanted the original star of RoboCop, Peter Weller,  to reprise his role in the new film. Leon films was able to screenshot and share the tweet with many fans becoming very excited over the prospect of Weller returning to the silver screen.

Unfortunately SuperBroMovies has revealed that the 71 year old actor has stated no interest in reprising his role. Although a disappointment for many, the film is still shaping up to be a promising sequel. It will take place directly after the events of the first, wiping the slate clean of all the sequels and 2014 reboot of the same name. It will also honor it’s heritage by being created as a hard R film with no other rating in mind. Despite no release date in sight and very little concrete details to go off of, the undeniable promise in the air makes it hard not to get excited over what’s to come.

Keidan Chavez: I am an undergraduate attending Whittier College majoring in screen writing and journalism. I love to watch movies, play Red Dead Redemption 2 and read whenever I get the chance. I will watch anything related to Wright, Tarantino, The Coen Brothers or Nolan. I will also play anything made by Naughty Dog or Rockstar Games. I love being able to experience great stories, especially when I am able to share that experience with others. I also love learning about movies and sharing that knowledge to those that are just as passionate.
