Some new information was released about the upcoming animated movie The Mitchells vs. The Machines. Collider reports that the movie’s release date has now been set for April 30. The Mitchells vs. The Machines will be released directly onto the streaming service Netflix.
The movie, formerly called Connected, is directed by Mike Rianda and is being produced by filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who previously worked on successful animated features like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Lego Movie, and the television series Clone High.
The plot of the movie follows the family of the Mitchells as they embark on an exciting road trip. Unfortunately for the family they cross paths with some rebellious robots that are trying to take over the world.
On Twitter, Netflix announced the movie’s voice cast. Danny McBride will be playing the Mitchell’s patriarch Rick, SNL alumni Maya Rudolph is voicing the family’s matriarch Linda, and Abbi Jacobson, of Broad City fame, is voicing their daughter Katie. Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, Charlyne Yi, Elle Mills, Alex Hirsch, and Griffin McElroy are also part of the movie’s cast. Other cast members include former SNL cast members and writers Conan O’Brien, Fred Armisen, Sasheer Zamata, and Jay Pharoah as well as current SNL cast member Beck Bennett.
