‘The Miseducation of Cameron Post’ Takes Grand Jury Prize at Sundance

Director Desiree Akhavan’s The Miseducation of Cameron Post took the grand jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah on Saturday, January 27th, 2018. In the film, Chloë Grace Moretz stars as a gay teen who is forced into a conversion therapy center in the early 1990’s.

As reported by Deadline, Moretz accepted the award for The Miseducation of Cameron Post and dedicated the award to those who the film would help the most, saying that it was for  “LGBTQ survivors of sexual conversation therapy.” Moretz also added that she and the team behind the film “want…this movie to shine a light that it is only illegal in nine states out of the fifty states of this county to practice sexual conversation therapy.”

Jason Mantzoukas (The Disaster Artist, The League) hosted the ceremony, which took place over ten days and saw total of sixty-six films competing for prizes. Rachel Morrison (Mudbound), Michael Stulhbarg (Call Me By Your Name), and Jada Pinkett Smith (Girls Trip) served as some of the twenty-four jurors who picked the winners.

Christopher Aanerud: I graduated from the University of Georgia with an English degree. I enjoy watching movies and TV shows, playing video games, singing badly to pop songs in the car, eating delicious food, and drinking fine alcoholic beverages. I play basketball when my crippling knee and back pain allows, and I try to hit the gym on a regular basis. I have a son and a sugar glider, and when I'm not combing the internet for breaking news I am likely traveling or riding my Razor scooter.
