The Mandalorian & Grogu set a series record for one of the strongest openings for a Star Wars film, netting a massive 81.96 million. While expected to be a success if the film performed reasonably enough to allow for talks about continuing Mando’s story, though nothing is confirmed as of yet.
A pleasent box office surprise is Obsession , taking second place with 22.4 million in its second week, beating out Michael which took third in its third week with 20 million. The Devil Wears Prada 2 earned 12.59 million taking fourth, beating out the Sheep Detectives by a decent margin, coming in at fifth with 8.98 million.
Newcomer Passenger took home sixth place with 8.7 million, knocking Mortal Kombat II down to seventh with 6.17 million. Sitting securely in the eighth place is I Love Boosters starring Kiki Palmer, which brought home 3.72 million for its opening weekend. Ninth and tenth place are made up respectively by the Super Mario Galaxy movie with 3.17 million in its eighth weekend and Project Hail Mary With 2.71 million in its ninth weekend.
