Gil Gerard, the actor that brought the iconic Sci-Fi character Buck Rogers to life, passed away on December 16, 2025. Although initially confirmed by his wife, the news of his passing was reported by CNN. Gilbert Cyril Gerard was born on January 23, 1947 in Little Rock, Arkansas and began career as an Industrial Chemist shortly after graduating from high school, yet continued pursuing his passion for acting that eventually led him to relocate to New York City. His first leading role was on the popular daytime soap opera The Doctors in 1963 after appearing in numerous commercials, but he was best known for his lead role as Buck Rogers in the self-titled film and series that followed & lasted 2 seasons Buck Rogers in the 25th Century but; He also had leading roles in Not Just Another Affair and Hear No Evil, both released in 1982 (his full filmography is shown on IMDB). Additional industry achievements he reached include the co-writing of a screenplay for his own first film Hooch in 1976, which he also starred in, and launched his own production company named Prudhomme Productions in 2005, according to the biography on his IMDB profile. His personal triumphs include overcoming addictions to drugs, food and alcohol while in turn righting some of his mistakes that resulted from these ailments, then sharing stories of his personal experiences in hopes of helping others facing similar struggles. The actor had been battling an aggressive form of cancer they had only recently learned about, his body succumbed to the illness while in hospice care shortly after being diagnosed. He will surely be missed and remembered for his accomplishments.
