‘The Little Hours’ Picked Up by Gunpowder & Sky at Sundance

It was reported on Thursday that Gunpowder & Sky has bought the rights to The Little Hours for the low seven figures. The film premiered last Thursday at Sundance. Deadline was the first to report.

The film centers on a servant boy (Dave Franco) who seeks refuge at a convent in medieval Tuscany, only to find that the nuns in the convent have more going on then he would have imagined. As the naive young nuns begin to fall for him, the servant begins to uncover the desires that lurk beneath the surface of these socially-depraved women. Alison Brie, John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, Aubrey Plaza, and Kate Micucci also star in the film.

Director and writer Jeff Baena, wrote this adaptation to be a loose and irreverent adaptation of one of the stories in Giovanni Boccaccio’s 14th-century work The Decameron.

Given that the tragic French drama Les Innocentes premiered last year at Sundance (which told the story of a convent full of nuns who are raped during WWII and become pregnant) it is somewhat ironic that this comedy, which is similar in content matter, but very different in intent, is premiering this year at Sundance.

There is no release date set yet for The Little Hours.
