‘The Last of Us’ Will Join ‘Uncharted’ on the Big Screen

The hit 2013 title The Last of Us will get a film adaptation and join a growing list of video game franchises migrating to the big screen. The game comes from Sony’s Naughty Dog Studio, the makers of Uncharted. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Neil Druckman, the creative director of The Last of Us will write the script for the film adaptation.

The Last of Us follows two characters, Joel and Ellie, as they travel through a post-apocalyptic setting after a fungal infection has turned much of the human population into vicious mutants. In addition to the infected, Joel and Ellie also have to contend with hostile survivors seeking to prey on weaker individuals. The game’s emphasis on a traditional narrative makes a film adaptation easy to imagine.

The involvement of game developers from Naughty Dog will likely please fans, in addition to Druckman, game director Bruce Straley will help produce along with Sam Raimi. Accuracy to the source material does not guarantee a good movie though, this project will likely call for someone more familiar with movies as a director and possibly to help with the screenplay. The Last of Us adaptation certainly seems off to a smoother start than the Uncharted movie, which has already gone through multiple director changes, but it’s still early.
