The King Returns! ‘The Lion King’ Arrives in Theaters this Weekend!

Another Disney Classic is hitting the big screen! Simba and his friends are back and are celebrating the film’s 23rd anniversary. Featuring stellar voice-work from Matthew Broderick (Ferris Buehler’s Day Off), Jonathan Taylor Thomas (Man of the House), Jeremy Irons (Justice League), James Earl Jones (Star Wars), and those pesky hyenas voiced by Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost), Cheech Marin (Cars 3), and Jim Cummings (who provides the voice to Pete from Mickey Mouse). We can’t forget the other iconic characters such as Zazu (Rowan Atkinson), Nala (Moira Kelly), Timon (Nathan Lane), and of course Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella). The Lion King was directed by both Roger Allers (The Prophet) and Rob Minkhoff (Mr. Peabody & Sherman).

The Lion King was a massive success at the box office making over $766 Million and becoming highest-grossing film of 1994!  It has seen re-releases in 2002 in Imax and 2011 in 3-D, as well as returns in 3-D this weekend.

Whether it’s the first time you’re taking your kids to see the film, or a childhood favorite, The Lion King is a perfect family movie — not to mention the iconic songs (written by Tim Rice and Elton John and soundtrack by Hans Zimmer) that will be with you long after you leave the theater. So, grab who you can and go see a true Disney Classic playing in theaters this weekend!

Rick Rice: A kid at heart who has loved watching movies from a very young age. Credit must be given to Siskel and Ebert whose film reviews educated me on the world of film inspired me to become a writer myself. I love to read books that range from various topics, copious amounts of research is something that excites me and of course sitting in a movie theater is a highlight of my life. When I'm not watching movies or reading I enjoy listening to foreign music and working hard on finishing my short stories. Currently working on my degree in English with a plan to enroll into Film School with the dream of becoming a screenwriter and director.
