As MGM and EON try to stay on track for the upcoming release date of the latest Bond 25 film, the search is tightening on who will be replacing Danny Boyle, who was set to direct the last films, including Specter and Skyfall. Boyle previously left the project due to creative differences.
According to Variety, there are two frontrunners that are being considered. There is American Animal‘s helmer, Bart Layton, as well as S.J Clark, who is also set to direct the upcoming Star Trek film. There is no hint as of yet for which director will be chosen and another possible direction the company may go is with White Boy Rick helmer, Yann Demange, though his current project is still under production with no idea of how long Demange will be tied up with it.
With the fate of Bond 25 up in the air, Daniel Craig has also been exploring other options as he recently signed on to the upcoming Star Wars film under the direction of The Last Jedi‘s director, Rian Johnson. The film is currently up for sell at the Toronto Film Festival as Craig will potentially be starting production in November. Craig insists his involvement in the latest Star Wars won’t conflict with Bond 25.
Only time will tell before MGM and Eon finally make their decision amongst the three potential director candidates. Will it be Layton, Clark, Demange or someone else? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for updates as it becomes available.
