The highly anticipated superhero film, The Flash, is finally here. DC‘s newest project kicked off its run in North America with $9.7 million in previews.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is projected to reach the $70 million range as it opens over Father’s Day weekend with high anticipations and active promotion from Warner Bros. “It’s the best superhero movie I’ve ever seen,” said Warner Bros. Discovery CEO, David Zaslav, at CinemaCon in late April. However, critics seem to be split when it comes to the hype surrounding The Flash, as it currently holds a 67 percent Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The superhero film follows Barry Allen (AKA: The Flash) as he uses his super speed to play around with the past. Conflicts arise when his efforts to protect his family from a crisis create a world with no superheroes, forcing the hero to speed into the future and redefine it.
Directed by Andy Muschietti, the cast includes Ezra Miller as the titular hero, both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck reprising their roles as Batman (with Keaton taking on this role for the first time since 1991), Sasha Calle as Supergirl, and Michael Shannon reprising his role as General Zod.
The Flash opens after a tumultuous 2022 on behalf of Miller, with the lead actor facing several arrests and general controversy before releasing a statement in August 2022 to address and apologize for their behavior as well as discuss the possibility of seeking mental help. Aside from the red carpet premiere of the movie, Miller has been absent from any sort of press for this project.
