The First Trailer for Drama ‘The Dig’ From Netflix is Out

Netflix has released the first trailer for The Dig this morning, and get this; it will be one of the first original movies to be released from the streaming service in the new year.  Netflix’s U.K drama stars Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman), Lily James (Rebecca), and Ralph Fiennes (No Time to Die). On January 15, Netflix will release the Simon Stone-directed drama for cinemas and on January 29 for the streaming service.

Turned into an adaptation from John Preston’s novel of the same title, The Dig tells the story of real events about the most famous archaeological dig in Britain’s Sutton Hoo, Suffolk that provided remarkable insights into early Anglo-Saxon England.

The film, The Dig is set in 1939 as WWII approaches. A wealthy widow Edith Pretty (Mulligan), employs an amateur archaeologist Basil Brown (Fiennes) to excavate the burial mounds on her estate. When a historical discovery is made, the memories of Britain’s history linger in the face of uncertainty as WWII gets closer.

The film also stars Johnny Flynn (Emma), Ben Chaplin (Cinderella), Ken Stott (The Hobbit Trilogy), Archie Barnes (Patrick the Pug), and Monica Dolan (Official Secrets).

Preston is an author of three greatly praised novels, including Kings of the Roundhouse, released in 2005, and Touching the Moon in 1992.
