Like many other popular films that were made more than ten years ago, the 1989 Patrick Swayze movie Road House will be getting the remake treatment. Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, XXX) has been selected by MGM to direct the reboot.
Like many of Cohen’s films, the original Road House did not offer much in the way of depth or cinematic value, but instead became a fan favorite due to the exciting action sequences. The story centers around Dalton, a tough bouncer (Swayze in the original) who is hired to oversee a roadside bar in which fights break out every night. After sustaining an injury one night, Dalton is cared for by a beautiful female doctor (Kelly Lynch) with whom he falls in love. Dalton soon learns he must protect his new girlfriend, and the entire town for that matter, from the local crime boss who is accustomed to getting his way.
The script for the remake has been penned by Michael Stokes, who also wrote Crash Bandits, another action movie that Cohen will be directing.
As there are no actors attached to the film, it may be awhile before production begins on Road House; however, Cohen is currently directing The Boy Next Door, a much different type of film in which a divorced woman (Jennifer Lopez) has an affair with her teenage neighbor.
