‘The Expendables 3’ Loses Bruce Willis, Adds Harrison Ford

Sylvester Stallone took to his Twitter today to announce a major change in the lineup for the third installment of the Expendables franchise. Stallone tweeted, “WILLIS OUT… HARRISON FORD IN  !!!!  GREAT NEWS !!!!!  Been waiting years for this!!!!” and just a few minutes later added, “GREEDY AND LAZY …… A SURE FORMULA FOR CAREER FAILURE.”

Fans of Ford will be happy to hear of his involvement in the franchise, which has rounded up some of the greatest action stars of the past decades and thrown them into the same movie(s). However, the more interesting piece of news seems to be Stallone’s not-so-subtle shot at Willis as “greedy and lazy.” While one can hardly characterize Willis’ career as a ‘failure’ (it also takes some willpower to believe that Daniel Day-Lewis or Denzel Washington will look back with regret at missing out on the Expendables franchise), we can’t help but wonder why Sly seems so happy to see him go. Based on the comments, it seems Willis probably wanted more money than the studio was willing to pay, but we have to wonder whether there wasn’t something more to the story to merit this personal attack. There is also to possibility that Stallone’s tweet was merely a piece of career advice and completely unrelated to his previous statement.

Regardless of Willis’ involvement, or lack thereof, The Expendables 3 is set with yet another star-studded lineup. Much of the original cast will appear as well as newcomers Jackie Chan, Milla Jovovich, Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes and Nicholas Cage. The film will also feature female MMA star Ronda Rousey and professional boxer Victor Ortiz.

The Expendables 3 is slated for an August 15, 2014 release date.
