‘The Devil’s Bath’ Up For Consideration For Best International Feature At The Oscars From Austria

Austria has put forth its Best International Feature Film contender at the upcoming Academy Awards. They’ve put forward The Devil’s Bath for consideration.

Variety reports that The Devil’s Bath has made a circuit through film festivals. During the Berlin Film Festival, it took home an accolade for the cinematography on display in the film.

The film follows a soon-to-be bride as her thoughts slowly start to turn sinister after a woman is sentenced to death for the murder of a child.

Anja Plaschg stars in the headlining role, with the supporting cast filled out by Maria Hofstätter, David Scheid, and Natalija Baranova, among others.

Written by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, the duo also wrote the film. The pair has worked together many times before, writing and directing The Lodge, and Goodnight Mommy.

Franz also wrote other projects like Paradise: Hope, Paradise: Love, and Paradise: Faith on her own.

Reportedly, as well, the film is based on real-world events. The concept comes from older accounts of people from the period who, to avoid suicide, committed crimes extreme enough to warrant execution.

The film will be distributed by Shudder in the US.
