The “Definitive” Bruce Lee Biopic is in the Works

Fans of Bruce Lee, one of Hollywood’s most iconic action stars, are in for a treat. According to Deadline, Lee’s daughter, Shannon, has partnered with producer Lawrence Grey (Las Vegas) to create what they’re billing as the “definitive” account of her father’s life. The film will be a production of Bruce Lee Entertainment, which has already launched a TV show, novel series, comic book series, and mobile game based on Lee’s life and writings in its first year of business. The production team is currently on the lookout for a writer and director for the project.

According to Shannon Lee, the biopic will differ from other treatments of her father’s life (such as the 1993 Universal film Dragon) by focusing more on his identity as an artist, philosopher, and writer rather than just a nunchuk-wielding stuntman. Lee states:

…many don’t know that Bruce Lee was also a prolific writer and a creator of his own unique art and philosophy. That’s what we want to show, not just his kick-ass physicality, but the depth of his character and beliefs.

Bruce Lee appeared in only five films before his untimely death in 1973 at the age of 32, but he is widely regarded as one of the most influential action stars of all time, and his martial arts philosophy, Jeet Kune Do, is still practiced today.
