The third installment in the paranormal-horror franchise The Conjuring, entitled The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, dropped its new trailer on April 22nd. The film brings back Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in their starring roles as the real-life couple with a taste for the metaphysical, Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Conjuring 3, like its predecessors, is based on real-life events.
Michael Chaves, who directed the franchise’s spinoff The Curse of La Llorona, directs the film written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. The Conjuring 3 is based on story by James Wan, who directed the franchise’s first two films, and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. It dramatizes the mysterious happenings that preceded the real-life trial of 19-year-old Arne Cheyenne Johnson in the 1980s. The teen was accused of killing his landlord in what became the first U.S. trial in which a defendant claimed demonic possession as defense.
Months before the murder-trial, Johnson recruited self-proclaimed demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren to save his fiancee’s 11-year-old brother, who was believed to be possessed. Johnson argued that the demonic entity fled from the young boy’s body and into his own, thus committing the crime through his vessel.
The trailer shows the Warrens’ attempt to help the possessed boy as the dark energy proves to be the most sinister and difficult challenge they have ever faced. The couple, no strangers to horror or danger, are pushed to the brink and risk losing their own lives in a fight against evil.
Warner Bros.’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It will premiere in theaters and on HBO Max June 4th. Watch the film’s new trailer here:
