‘The Billion Brick Race’ Picked Up By Director Jorge Gutierrez

After the almost surprising success of The Book of Life and the huge success of the two Lego movies, it comes at almost no surprise that the director of The Book of Life would like to take his swing at directing Lego movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jorge Gutierrez has signed on to direct The Billion Brick Race, a Lego film concept shrouded in mystery.

All we have been able to glean about the film is that the concept was created by writer Drew Pearce (Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation) and actor Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother). We are extremely interested to see where Gutierrez will take the film, and we hope to see his directorial flare flash in the film as it does in his previous work.

Lego films have become some of the most highly-rated animated films of past decade, with The Lego Movie from 2014 holding a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the newest film, The Lego Batman Movie, holding a 90%. The newest Lego movie, The Lego Ninjago Movie, looks to follow the trend of the “fun-for-all-ages” styles of films on October 13. There have also been talks for a sequel for the original Lego Movie, with a flexible release date of 2019.
