Matt Reeves’ long awaited The Batman seems to be finally wrapping up filming, as the actors portraying street gang members confirm. Due to Covid-19, many films including The Batman have postponed filming and release dates numerous times. After having to pause photography back in March, the crew said that they would be back filming after two weeks, which turned into six months. Production was then delayed again after just three days, when lead actor Robert Pattinson contracted Covid-19.
Now, according to Screen Rant, the film has a current theatrical release date of March 4th, 2022. The film stars Robert Pattinson as a new live action Dark Knight. Actor Jay Lycurgo, who plays one of the street gang members in the film, revealed on Instagram yesterday that he had finally wrapped up production. The actor can be seen in the movie’s first trailer, wearing painted on skull makeup and crying. The Batman will also feature performances by Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis.
Back in 2014, Batman actor Ben Affleck was supposed to direct the project. When Matt Reeves took over as director, he has stated that the film will take on a more darker noir style, which is why there will be Gotham street gang. Although many details of the film have not been released, The Batman is said to have a darker undertone compared to past Batman films.
