With Matt Reeves’ The Batman on the horizon and Robert Pattinson’s cast as the Caped Crusader, many are still curious on what allies and adversaries this new Batman will face off against. Today it was announced that one of Batman’s most iconic rivals, Catwoman will appear in the new upcoming superhero film. This time, she will be portrayed by Big Little Lies star Zoe Kravitz.
Catwoman, i.e. Selena Kyle, is among one of the most popular characters in the Batman universe, a cat-themed jewel their known for her on-again/off-again relationship with Bruce Wayne. Catwoman has been portrayed by a number of different actresses over the years. Some of the most famous live action portrayals include Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether and Eartha Kitt in the Adam West Batman show, Michelle Pfeiffer in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns in 1992, and infamously in 2004 by Halle Berry. Her last live action theatrical appearance came from Anne Hathaway in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.
Zoe Kravitz, the daughter of Lenny Kravitz, has made quite a name for herself as an actress. This includes numerous small roles in X-Men: First Class, Mad Max: Fury Road and most recently in the Fantastic Beasts movies. Not only that, but this actually isn’t her first time playing Catwoman, having briefly voiced the character in 2017’s The LEGO Batman Movie. Of course, Kravitz will have a much bigger role for Selina Kyle in this live action adaptation than as a LEGO character. Regardless, fans will have a lot to look forward to seeing Catwoman interact with Batman once again in DC’s revamped cinematic universe.
The Batman is set for release June 25th 2021.
