After only two days since its theatrical release, Universal Picture’s newest animated feature Bad Guys has pulled ahead to the number one spot at the domestic box office. The movie has also received an ‘A’ from CinemaScore, providing evidence that this film is an all-around hit amongst fans as well as at the box office.
Pierre Perifel’s The Bad Guys tell the story of five well-known criminals who are set upon tricking the world into thinking they’ve turned over a new leaf and become model citizens – and from that premise alone it’s no surprise this movie is a hit among its intended family audience.
The film has a cast packed with famous favorites such as Sam Rockwell of Jojo Rabbit, In the Heights star Anthony Ramos, The Office‘s Craig Robinson, as well as comedians Awkwafina and Lilly Singh. This calls for a job well done for the people casting these seasoned actors for the film.
But the numbers reporting the income of the film are not only good news for the people behind the scenes but the members of the movie theater industry. There was quite a battle between The Bad Guys and incumbent front runner Sonic the Hedgehog 2 before the Universal picture pulled ahead. This is great news for theaters as well as it could mean parents and their children will finally be making their return to in-person viewing since the introduction of COVID-19.

It is important to note that this is another weekend that Spider-Man: No Way Home hasn’t been in the top 10 weekend films playing in theaters since opening weekend in December.
