‘The Aristocats’ Live Action Film in Development at Disney

Disney doesn’t seem to be slowing down when it comes to creating live-action films of their beloved classics, as The Aristocats, is in the works within the studio’s live-action team.

Sources tell Deadline that the film is in early development with Will Gluck and Keith Bunin to pen the script, Gluck producing through his Olive Bridge Entertainment banner.

The film will be based on the 1970s animated classic, which follows a family of Parisian felines who learn they are the inheritors of their owner’s fortune. When the owner’s jealous butler discovers this, he kidnaps them and leaves them in the country, leaving them to team up with a smooth-talking tomcat to try and make it back home before it’s too late.

Since the film is still in early development, not many more details have been revealed yet. This includes whether or not it would be theatrical or for streaming. Sources did add that the main characters are animals, similar to the way Disney produced Lady and the Tramp, which came out in 2019.

Gluck is no stranger to the family-friendly genres, having directed Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway for Sony, after successfully directing the first one. As for Bunin, the writer has strong ties with the studio after working and writing on Onward for Pixar.
