Ali Abbasi, director of the 2024 Oscar-nominated The Apprentice, has exited representation with CAA amid an ongoing sexual misconduct allegation. The allegation comes from a report that the filmmaker was involved in a groping incident at CAA’s Golden Globes party last month, Deadline reports, assaulting an “A-list, CAA-repped actor”. Abbasi mentioned in a statement that in choosing a new path in his filmmaking career, he has severed ties with CAA. He is also no longer represented by Entertainment 360.

The Apprentice, a biographical drama film depicting a period in the life of a younger Donald Trump, premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film stars Sebastian Stan in the lead role as well as Jeremy Strong as Trump’s lawyer Roy Cohn. Stan and Strong went on to receive prestigious acting nominations at several ceremonies in this year’s awards circuit, including the Golden Globes and the upcoming 97th Academy Awards.

Abbasi has yet to comment directly on the allegation, instead stating The Apprentice remains a project he’s “incredibly proud of,” further mentioning how he looks forward to announcing the next steps regarding his career at a later date.
