Tessa Thompson (Westworld) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Looper) are attached to star in the upcoming sci-fi thriller Ash, which will be directed by Grammy-winning musician and filmmaker Flying Lotus, aka Steven Ellison. Ash will be his sophomore feature. Neill Blomkamp (District 9) has come aboard to executive produce.
It is Flying Lotus’ follow-up to the Sundance-premiering body horror anthology, Kuso.
The film, which will also be scored by Ellison, watches as a woman (Thompson) wakes up on a distant planet and finds the crew of her space station viciously killed, and must then decide if she can trust the man (Gordon-Levitt) sent to rescue her. But as their investigation into what happened sets in motion a terrifying chain of events, he begins to wonder how innocent she really is.
“It’s an absolute dream come true to collaborate with some of the most talented actors out there!,” said Flying Lotus.
Flying Lotus will appear at Toronto International Film Festival to meet potential buyers for the film and to support his segment of V/H/S/99, which will premiere during the festival’s Midnight section.
Ellison shared his excitement on Instagram writing “So excited to share this news w y’all…The movie is alive and it’s gonna be insane!!”
Jonni Remmler wrote the screenplay for the film which is going into production in New Zealand next year.
