Warner Bros. Pictures has just released the second trailer for their upcoming horror film Weapons. Though the mystery surrounding the film’s plot remains intact, the tension and eerie visuals shared have dialed up to ten. Weapons serves as the follow-up film to Barbarian writer-director Zach Cregger’s filmography. Like its predecessor, Weapons looks to promise lots of twists and turns in store for its audience.
In the new trailer released this week, we get an extended look at the concerned community of Maybrook as they question elementary school teacher Ms. Gandy, played by Julia Garner, as to where the class of 17 missing children may have wandered off to late one evening. Accompanied by sinister security camera footage of the children running into the night, studied by Josh Brolin’s character, it’s too early to tell exactly which direction the story could be heading. Over the visuals, a child’s voice is heard narrating, “This is a true story that happened right here in my town,” the young voice says “A lot of people die in a lot of really weird ways in this story, but you’re not gonna find it in the news.”
Other visuals shown in the new trailer include glimpses of the rest of the cast, including Austin Abrams, Alden Ehrenreich, and a very bloody, very terrifying Benedict Wong. Maybrook community members are seen distressed, and some are seemingly overcome by a supernatural force that teases more terror and gore projected to unfold. A singular message, “Are you watching?” is repeated over and over until the trailer’s final second, which is accompanied by a disembodied hand ringing a bell, almost as if provoking a signal to be obeyed.
Weapons releases in theaters August 8. Watch the newest trailer below, if you dare.
