St. Vincent director Ted Melfi has been tapped to write and direct the adaptation of the Matthew Quick novel Every Exquisite Thing, according to Deadline. The film follows Nanette O’Hare, a teen who reads a copy of an out-of-print cult novel and is inspired to seek out the reclusive writer.
Melfi is fresh off success from St. Vincent which recently picked up Golden Globe nominations for Best Comedy or Musical and Best Actor for its star, Bill Murray. Melfi currently has three other films in development, including an adaptation of the J.R. Moehringer book, The Tender Bar.
The film rights to the Every Exquisite Thing were purchased by The Weinstein Company while it was still in manuscript and won’t be published until 2016. While no release date has been set, The Weinstein Company is clearly hoping the book will be a success and the film will capitalize on that. The company found success in backing Quick’s previous book, Silver Linings Playbook, which earned a number of awards nominations and found success at the box office.
