The post contained a photo of Gunn and Stallone together, with the caption reading, “Always love working with my friend @officialslystallone & our work today on #TheSuicideSquad was no exception. Despite Sly being an iconic movie star, most people still don’t have any idea what an amazing actor this guy is.”
Stallone made his own Instagram post in response to the news: “Working with this incredible Director on this astounding project has made this an amazing year,” Stallone posted. “I am a very lucky man to be surrounded by such talent.! #Warner Bros.”
Even though Gunn’s The Suicide Squad isn’t a direct continuation or remake of the 2016 film, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis and Joel Kinnaman will be returning to the same roles. Nathan Fillion is set to star as T.D.K. (The Detachable Kid), Idris Elba will play Bloodsport, and John Cena will play Peacemaker. Some are speculating that Stallone may be voicing King Shark, a member of the suicide squad that was absent from David Ayer’s 2016 film.
The Suicide Squad is set to come out August 6, 2021.
