Sydney Sweeney and Eric Roth are bringing a Massachusetts high school English teacher’s 2021 Reddit post to the big screen. The adaptation of the story entitled I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl, will be produced through Sweeney’s company, Fifty-Fifty Films. She will also star in the film.
Sweeney has amassed star power over the past few years with roles in major television shows like Euphoria and The White Lotus. She also starred in the recent romantic comedy, Anyone But You with Glen Powell, and the horror film, Immaculate. The Forrest Gump screenwriter, Roth, has written several star-studded hits including, A Star Is Born, Dune: Part One, and Munich.
With Sweeney and Roth attached, Warner Bros. was quick to acquire the package in a competitive bidding war. The high school teacher, Jack Cote, will serve as an executive producer. He is repped by Aaron Folbe of Underground Entertainment.
Cote’s story is about a woman who tries to rob a family by pretending she is their missing child, only to realize she has made a big mistake.
Underground’s Trevor Engelson and Folbe, Room 101’s Steven Schneider, and Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Mira Yoon will produce alongside Fifty-Fifty. The film does not have a director yet.
