Yesterday saw the release of the first trailer for a new Rebel Wilson movie called Isn’t It Romantic. This Australian-American romantic comedy stars Wilson as a woman who hits her head one day and wakes up in a romantic comedy movie. The very meta film stars Wilson in the lead role alongside Priyanka Chopra, Liam Hemsworth, and Adam Devine, and it’s directed by American screenwriter and director Todd Strauss-Schulson. New Line Cinema serves as producer while Warner Bros. will distribute.
The trailer opens with a young Natalie (Wilson) watching Pretty Woman and wishing to be as beautiful as Julia Roberts in the face of her mother’s criticisms. Flash ahead 25 years, and Natalie is living a ‘typical’ working adult life and loathes romantic comedies primarily due to her lack of a love life. After almost being robbed at a subway station, she hits her head and becomes unconscious. When she comes to, she notices a number of strange differences in reality. Everything in New York City has a sense of beauty and optimism, her apartment has become large and lavish, her job is more exciting and modern, and men seem to finally be paying attention to her. This continues until she comes to the startling realization that she’s living in a PG-13 rated romantic comedy film. We see numerous shots of large mobs of choreographed dance routines, clichéd dialogue, and other rom-com tropes, with the ultimate goal of Wilson’s character to fall in love with the perfect man (a Hemsworth, naturally).
Isn’t It Romantic, with its wacky, meta plot and a talented, recognizable cast releases on February 14, 2019 (Valentine’s Day). Check out the trailer below.
