When we walk into a bar and grille restaurant, we may not always see the servers inside as real people, but rather workers who are there to serve our needs. After watching the trailer for acclaimed director Andrew Bujalski‘s Support the Girls, one just might have a change of perspective on the close bonds people form when they work in public service.
The trailer opens with Lisa Conroy (Regina Hall) confronting a disrespectful customer at “Double Whammies” following a complaint by one of her young and voluptuous workers. Although she stays as polite as possible when asking him to leave, the man’s machismo takes over as he throws condiments on the floor before walking out.
This occurrence is clearly a regular one for Lisa, as she seems pretty calm the entire time. Obviously, working as the general manager for a Hooters-esque restaurant along the highway brings in a lot of pigs, along with people who are only there to take advantage of their surroundings. It seems, however, that Lisa is starting to reach the end of her rope as the trailer continues. We see Lisa nearly quit in the middle of the day, before her friends convince her to power through the stress. As we delve further into her life, and the lives of her co-workers and regulars at Double Whammies, we see more examples of how much they need and love one another.
Other cast members include Haley Lu Richardson, Dylan Gelula, James LeGros, and Lea Delaria.
The film is distributed by Magnolia Pictures and is set to release in theaters on August 24, 2018. Don’t forget to check out the trailer above.
