Superhero Comic ‘Harbinger’ To Receive Wes Ball Film Adaptation

Deadline reports on a new superhero film in the works from director Wes Ball based on the comic series Harbinger.

Ball is best known as the director of the Maze Runner films, which have thematic similarities to Harbinger as both stories follow teens facing a great threat.

Harbinger is owned by Valiant Comics. According to the Valiant Entertainment website, Harbinger follows protagonist Peter Stancheck who learns he has psychic powers and is given a chance to be inducted into the Harbinger Foundation. A major theme of the comic is that “all power comes with a price.” The comic was first published in 1992, which gives 30 years of material for the filmmakers to work with. It is unknown how much of the film will be directly based on the story of the comic.

A new film from a comic franchise that has yet to receive a film adaptation will shake up the already large demand for superhero films. The landscape of superhero films set out by the MCU and DCEU have set clear trends in the industry and this new Harbinger film will either continue the trends already set up or subvert expectations. Either way, superhero fans have a new franchise to look forward to. It is currently unknown which actors will appear in the film.

I have an interest in studying the arts and what interests audiences which has led me to writing about films at MXDWN.
