‘Supergirl’ Producer Lars P. Winther Claims That James Gunn And Peter Safran Have Already Met With David Ellison

Ahead of the release of Supergirl this Friday, Lars P. Winther, one of the film’s producers, spoke at the Brooklyn blue carpet premiere. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere, Winther claimed that the current Co-Chairman and Co-CEOs of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, have already met with Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison, who is currently finalizing the merger of Paramount with DC Studios’ parent company, Warner Bros.

Winther claimed that Ellison had visited the set of Man of Tomorrow, the upcoming follow-up to 2025’s Superman, which is being directed by James Gunn and is currently filming in Atlanta. Winther said,

He came to Trilith [Studios] already. That’s where we shoot all our movies that James directs. He came to Atlanta, we showed him everything, and we’re having discussions with him.

These discussions appear to be regarding how DC Studios will be run following the Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger. Currently, DC Studios has an upcoming slate of releases at various stages of production. In addition to the aforementioned Supergirl and Man of Tomorrow, there are upcoming 2026 releases, such as the TV series Lanterns and the horror film Clayface, releasing in October. The Batman: Part II also began production just a week ago, with a planned release in October 2027.

Time will tell whether DC Studios will change following the upcoming merger. For now, audiences can look forward to the release of Supergirl this Friday. Select theaters will also be holding Early Access showings this Wednesday.
