‘Supergirl’ Actress Milly Alcock Reveals Cape Is From Same Material As 1978 Superman’s Cape

According to Deadline, Milly Alcock (Sirens, House of the Dragon) reveals that her cape was etched from the same material as that of Christopher Reeve’s (Somewhere in Time, Deathtrap) Superman from the 1978 film . Alcock will be starring as Supergirl in the upcoming Warner Bros. Film of the same name, premiering on June 26. The film is being directed by Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya).

Alcock first expressed her thoughts in the Raiders of the Lost podcast, stating, “My cape in this film was remade using material from the original Superman cape. Yeah, I think that they found there was like 16 meters of that material, so yeah, that’s in the back of my cape now.”

Reeve played Clark Kent in the 1978’s Superman, 1980’s Superman II, 1983’s Superman III and 1987’s Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. Different media were also released after his death in 2004 such as the 2006’s Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut and the 2024 documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story.

Alcock first appeared as Supergirl in the 2025 film Superman starring David Corenswet (Pearl, Twisters) as the titular superhero. Alcock will be returning as Kara Zor-El, her alter ego, as she turns 23 to discover a new adventure is ahead that adapts the plot of the comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The comic centers around Kara and Knolle, an alien girl, who seek revenge on Krem, Knolle’s father’s murderer.

The film also stars Jason Momoa (Aquaman, Chief of War), Matthias Schoenaerts (Far from the Madding Crowd, Rust and Bone), and Eve Ridley (Emerald, The Witcher).

Supergirl will be released June 26 in theaters.
