Everyone’s favorite plumber is coming to the big screen in the spring time of next year. Based on the infamous Nintendo video game, Illumination presents The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The first Super Mario game was released in 1985 and was created by legendary Japanese game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. Miyamoto is widely renowned in the gaming world and is responsible for the creation of other iconic games besides Super Mario such as Donkey Kong, Legend of Zelda, and Star Fox.
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, and screenplay by Matthew Fogel, Mario finds himself in an underground labyrinth alongside his brother, Luigi, trying to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser.
This film has an all star cast lined up to voice these legendary characters. Chris Pratt voices Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy voices Princess Peach, Charlie Day voices Luigi, Jack Black voices Bowser and Keegen-Michael Key voices Toad.
The supporting characters also have star actors with Seth Rogan voicing Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
Charles Martinet is also set to voice characters in the film, many will recognize his voice as being the voices of Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi and many more.
Produced by Christopher Meledandri, Shigeru Miyamoto and Robert Taylor, this film is set to be in theaters on April 7, 2023.
