Sundance Announces 2024 Festival Competition Jury

Sundance announced the sixteen alumni members that are set to make up the competition jury for its 2024 festival. Five members were also selected to represent the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film jury.

The people involved include Debra Granik, Rudy Valdez, and Charlotte Regan. Multiple jury members were put into groups of three and assigned to different categories, including the U.S. Dramatic Competition and World Cinema Documentary Competition.

The Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize jury included Dr. Mandë Holford, Dr. Nia Imara, Matt Johnson, Theresa Park, and Courtney Stephens, all of whom decided on the winner Love Me from directors Sam and Andy Zuchero before the festival began. The award is meant to support and increase visibility for films that tackle science and technology.

Festival Director Eugene Hernandez wanted to create a jury that would reflect the diversity in filmmaking and “amplify the next generation of independent storytellers.” These selections “know what it is to introduce new work to the Sundance community,” according to Director of Programming Kim Yutani, Sundance is eager to bring these people on board and help them give opportunities to indie filmmakers trying to make it big in the industry.

The festival is set for a January 18-28 run in Park City and Salt Lake City. The feature winners for each competition will be announced on January 26th, while the short film winners will be presented on the 23rd.
