With a week to go before the national roll-out of the eagerly anticipated Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. still has a few surprises up its sleeve. The upcoming film – which features a collection of DC villains portrayed by the likes of Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Jared Leto – reportedly will also feature an appearance from another famed DC character…The Flash (Ezra Miller).
While Warner Bros. has not officially commented on Miller’s appearance in David Ayer’s film, which opens on August 5th, several sources have confirmed The Flash will indeed be featured in the film and not just as an end credits coda. It’s unclear as to when Miller entered production of Suicide Squad – this may have occurred this past April during the movie’s re-shoots or he may have been a much more recent addition to the already star-packed ensemble cast. Miller, of course, first debuted his Barry Allen/The Flash character in a brief cameo appearance in last March’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The character will be featured in the upcoming Justice League – the first look of the film recently took off at Comic-Con last weekend where Miller’s iteration of the character was prominently featured. Following that, Miller will headline a solo The Flash film for director Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) – the movie (slated to open on March 18, 2018) recently cast rising actor Kiersey Clemons (also of Dope fame). It seems clear, at least on the onset, that Miller’s appearance in the DC Cinematic Universe, is to serve as a bit of comic relief – a mode that may have been taken after Batman v Superman received criticism for its bleakness. Miller has proven comedic chops previously with turns in The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Trainwreck.
Suicide Squad opens on August 5th.
