It really never seems like the DCEU got to where Marvel has been for years now. Sure, everyone once in a while we get an Aquaman or Joker, but no other one of their films really reached such a high mark box office wise. It also never helps that two of their (supposed to be) biggest movies in their franchise got destroyed in the reshoot process. Both of these said films have had rabid fans (Yours included) that have taken to Twitter and other social media platforms to demand a certain cut of said film.
Justice League was the first movie to really go rabid with the hashtags. #ReleaseTheSnyderCut became a world wide phenomenon to the point where AT&T actually gave it the greenlight for its streaming service HBOMax. The second film is Suicide Squad. Not The Suicide Squad by James Gunn. No, the original one done by David Ayer.
What was supposed to be DC’s dark take on Guardians of the Galaxy, ended up becoming a half-baked action movie with no semblance of a plot and an Oscar. As to why it won the Oscar, we will surely never know. However, over the years, like Zack Snyder, director David Ayer has leaked little bits and pieces of what was going to be in his cut of Suicide Squad. As we have learned, the original cut was not only much longer, but would have seen the same tone from the original comic con trailer back in 2015.
Well, another little tid-bit was released today — and the subsequently deleted — by David Ayer himself. Thankfully, a large rabid fanbase quickly saved the video and uploaded it everywhere. The scene in question shows a badly charred Joker telling someone “You should be ashamed of yourself.” We know the original take on Joker was more closely like the comics, where he goes out of his way to berate Harley at every chance he could get.
Today does mark the day of #ReleaseTheAyerCut on Twitter, a movement largely orchestrated by loyal DCEU fans. Whether or not HBOMax plans to pick up this as well remains to be seen. No doubt they are waiting on how well Zack Snyder’s Justice League turns out first.
