STX Entertainment Places Release Dates On ‘The Happytime Murders’ and ‘Molly’s Game’

STXfilms, a division of media conglomerate STX Entertainment, has provided theater release dates for two of their recently acquired films. The Happytime Murders, a comedy directed by Brian Henson and starring Melissa McCarthy, will be released on August 17, 2018. The film will focus on a Los Angeles detective who must work together with a detective that appears to be a hand puppet in order to solve the murders of the cast of a television show called “The Happytime Gang.”

McCarthy is currently the only announced actress, and will also be serving as a producer on the film. The story was written by Todd Berger and Dee Robertson, with the screenplay also written by Berger.

Molly’s Game is a biographical drama that stars Jessica Chastain as Molly Bloom, a real-life skier who delved into an underground poker ring where she eventually became the ringleader. STX purchased the film at the Cannes Film Festival last year at $7 million. The release date has been set for November 22nd of this year.

Aaron Skorin will be making his directorial debut with this film, and has himself a star-studded cast that includes Idris Elba, Kevin Costner, Michael Cera, and Chris O’Dowd. The film is being produced by Amy Pascal, Mark Gordon, and Matt Jackson, and is being co-written by Bloom and Skorin.
