Steve Jobs, Danny Boyle‘s upcoming biopic of the late co-founder of Apple, has been selected to close the 59th BFI London Film Festival. It will mark the European premiere for the film which stars Oscar nominated actor Michael Fassbender (12 Years a Slave) in the title role. Brit Boyle has plenty of experience in closing out the London Film Festival, having previously done so twice before- with his Oscar winning 2008 triumph Slumdog Millionaire and Oscar nominated drama 127 Hours.
The film was written by Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) and is based on Walter Isaacson’s best-selling biography. The film chronicles Jobs’ dominance of the forefront of the digital revolution by offering a behind the scenes perspective of three pivotal points in his professional life- the launches of MacIntosh, the NeXT cube and the iMac. Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road), Katherine Waterson (Inherent Vice), Jeff Daniels (The Squid and the Whale) and Seth Rogen (Neighbors) co-star.
Steve Jobs was previously slotted as the centerpiece selection at the 2015 New York Film Festival and is widely expected to make its world premiere at the 2015 Telluride Film Festival (of course, that particular fest doesn’t announce its roster ahead of time). Previously, it was announced that Suffragette, the British period drama starring Carey Mulligan (Far From the Madding Crowd), will open the 2015 London Film Festival. The London Film Festival runs this year from October 7th-18th. The complete program will be unveiled on September 1st.
Steve Jobs opens in U.S. theaters on October 10th.
