‘Star Wars’ Second Unit Director Victoria Mahoney In Talks To Direct Paramount’s ‘Kill Them All’

Victoria Mahoney, the first woman and person of color to ever work behind the cameras for the Star Wars films, is currently in negotiations to make her big studio directorial debut. The second unit director of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will now head the upcoming Paramount action film Kill Them All

Kill Them All is Paramount’s adaptation of Kyle Starks’ graphic novel, which started out as a Kickstarter project before being acquired by Oni Press. With the script written by James Coyne, the project will be produced by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, whose credits include Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Stark’s Kill Them All is described as a love letter to 1990s action movies. It centers on a hard drinking, former cop who wants his job back and the world’s greatest betrayed murderess on the trail of revenge. The duo team up to take down a crime lord, who rules from a 15-story Miami high-rise, so they must fight their way floor by floor and cut through multiple crime lords, gang bosses, ex-boyfriends, henchmen, office workers, as well as their dark pasts. In other words, a more character-driven version of The Raid: Redemption.

Mahoney made her directorial debut with Yelling at the Sky, a 2012 semi-autobiographical indie feature starring Zoe Kravitz and Jason Clarke. She also had appeared in minor TV and movie roles. Back in February, Mahoney teamed with Ava DuVernay to adapt Octavia E. Butler’s sci-fi novel Dawn as an Amazon Studios drama series. She also directed an episode of Power and American and Crime Lovecraft Country, the upcoming HBO show from Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams.
