We Can Be Heroes, the long-awaited sequel to The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl (2005) was announced that it will be streaming on Netflix in January 2021. The film was written, directed, and produced by Robert Rodriguez, who also wrote and directed the original, as well as being the director of the original Spy Kids (2001). The film takes place fifteen years after the original. Taylor Dooley is returning as Lavagirl, who, in the sequel, is Lavamom. The original Sharkboy Taylor Lautner will not be returning in the sequel though, but there is said to be a Sharkdad appearance, according to Screenrant. The film also has a star-studded cast, with Priyanka Chopra, Pedro Pascal, and Christian Slater.
Pascal and Slater’s characters are members of a superhero group called the “Heroics” and Chopra is the director of Heroics. In the film, aliens abduct the group, and their children must work together to bring them home. Whereas Sharkboy and Lavagirl takes place inside the made up universe Planet Drool, We Can Be Heroes is said to take place on Earth. Because of this, it is unsure how Lavagirl and aliens will be appearing, but it will definitely be action packed. Rodriguez says that We Can Be Heroes is a stand alone sequel, so no knowledge on The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl is needed. The film will be streaming on Netflix January 1st.
