Steven Spielberg’s latest coming-of-age drama, The Fablemans, a film loosely based on the director’s childhood, will debut in theaters next year around Thanksgiving. From Universal Pictures and Amblin, the drama has been scheduled to open on Nov. 23, 2022, Variety reports.
The Fablemans takes place in Arizona, where Spielberg spent most of his developing career, and stars Seth Rogen, Paul Dano, Michelle Williams, and newcomer, Gabriel LaBelle.
Plot details have been kept from the public eye, but the film is said to chronicle the experiences of a movie-fanatic who eventually became the most commercially successful director in modern times. Dano and Williams will embark on the roles inspired by the director’s mother and father, while Rogen’s part is inspired by Spielberg’s beloved uncle. At the film’s center is LaBelle, as aspiring filmmaker named Sammy, with Julia Butters (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood) portraying his sister, Anne.
Spielberg co-wrote the screenplay with his frequent collaborator Tony Kushner. In addition to co-writing and producing, Spielberg will also produce the film alongside Kushner and Kristie Macosko Krieger. The Fablemans began production in July.
