‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Claims Title Of Highest-Grossing Hollywood Release In India

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially established a new box office record in India, surpassing James Cameron’s 2022 sci-fi feature Avatar: The Way of Water to become the highest-grossing Hollywood film in the country’s history.

A $10.6 million second weekend expanded the film’s cumulative gross in India to $52.8 million (approximately ₹440 crore), eclipsing the $50.8 million lifetime gross previously set by Avatar: The Way of Water. The milestone follows an opening frame in which the release recorded a first-day collection of ₹72.44 crore ($7.6 million), surpassing Avengers: Endgame to achieve the largest single-day opening launch for a non-Indian title in the market.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the superhero feature generated a four-day extended opening weekend total of $35.4 million across 17,250 screens nationwide. On PVR Inox, India’s largest cinema circuit, the film crossed ₹135 crore GBOC ($14.1 million) over its opening frame, drawing nearly 3 million patrons at a 60 percent average venue occupancy rate.

The commercial trajectory was propelled by widespread market penetration across major urban centers and regional territories. Metropolitan markets accounted for significant demand, led by Bengaluru at 23 percent of tracked top-city grosses, followed by Hyderabad at 17 percent, Mumbai at 15 percent, and Delhi at 14 percent.

Linguistic localization contributed heavily to overall ticket sales. While the original English-language version led venue collections with a 55 percent occupancy rate across nearly 8,000 showtimes, the Hindi-language dub recorded a 95 percent occupancy rate across 7,000 showtimes. Regional dubbing tracks in Tamil and Telugu further expanded market reach. On ticketing platform BookMyShow, Spider-Man: Brand New Day passed 6 million ticket sales during its opening weekend, surpassing lifetime platform totals for previous franchise entries including Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Avengers: Infinity War.
