Spencer, the biopic following a vital weekend in the life of Princess Diana, has found actors to portray supporting roles important to the story. The film, which stars Kristen Stewart as the late Princess, Sally Hawkins, Sean Harris, Timothy Spall, has recently cast Jack Farthing as Prince Charles, and lesser-known actors Olga Hellsing and Thomas Douglas as Sarash Ferguson and Earl Spencer, respectively, Deadline reports.
Earl Spencer is the father of Princess Diana and will obviously play some sort of role in Diana’s life. Sarah Ferguson, who is still alive today, was Diana’s sister-in-law and was married to Prince Andrew, while Diana was with Prince Charles. While the two got along for the most part, as any family it was a difficult relationship to say the least.
Though it is uncertain what roles either of these characters will play, this is the exciting part about historical biographical pictures: seeing how similar the castings look to the actual people.
The film is currently underway in Germany, while the story follows Diana over three days in the early 90’s where she decides to part with her partner, Prince Charles.
The film looks to be a character study similar to director Pablo Larraín and screenwriter Steven Knight’s earlier work. While the two have never worked together, much of their high profile work focuses on character’s in tough situations. Whether that be a grieve-stricken Jackie Kennedy or an unravelling Ivan Locke, the two seem perfect to work together.
Spencer is due out at some point in late 2021, early 2022, just ready for the next round of awards season.
