Netflix, in collaboration with Sky Dance Animation, dropped the trailer for their new feature animated film Spellbound which will premiere November 22 on the streaming platform. It will feature a cast of recognizable and beloved voices. Among the voices of the leading cast are Rachel Zegler, Nicole Kidman, and Javier Bardem. Other recognizable names on the project include its director and producers. Vicky Jensen, best known for her role in the Oscar-winning animated comedy Shrek, and John Lasseter as the producer of the former Pixar era pre-Disney merger joining Lasseter are David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Bruce Anderson.
Spellbound tells the tale of a magical adventure in Lumbria, a land ruled by a king and queen who fall under a curse turning them into monsters resulting in their daughter Ellian journeying across the kingdom to save them and bring peace back to the land. A classic fairy tale-style story with the flare and musical accompaniment of an original soundtrack by Alan Menken, who worked on many Disney musicals, and lyrics by Glenn Slater who is formally of Disney as well.
Spellbound is just part of the many planned and current Netflix and Sky Dance films set to have their premiers on the platform. Jensen has expressed having a wonderful time working on the project with both the studio and the steaming platform after a two-decade hiatus from feature films.
