‘Spectre’ Bond Theme Comes Courtesy of Sam Smith

The twenty-fourth entry into the James Bond franchise – Spectre – is inching closer to its release date. Today, we were finally treated to a James Bond tradition that dates back to the original film: a theme song done by a popular recording artist.

The long list of artists involved in this tradition includes Paul McCartney, Sheryl Crow, Madonna, Adele, Nancy Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Alicia Keys and Jack White and most prominently Shirley Bassey, who is responsible for three Bond tracks. This time, Sam Smith was tapped to belt out the new track, “Writing’s On The Wall.”

Adele performed the last Bond theme, “Skyfall,” which went on to win an Oscar for Best Original Song. Hers is considered by many to be one of the best ones, up there with Goldfinger and From Russia With Love.

Daniel Craig is returning for his fourth turn as the suave British spy. Sam Mendes also returns to direct the sequel to his 2012 film, Skyfall. Bond’s new villain comes in the form of two-time Academy Award winner Christopher Waltz (Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained) as the man behind the titular sinister organization.

It’s up to you to decide if the new song is up to par with past ones. You can listen to the Sam Smith’s song below.
