Spectacular New ‘Eternals’ Trailer Introduces War Between Eternals and Deviants

Late last night Marvel fans were surprised by the release of the final, and most comprehensive, trailer for upcoming film “Eternals,” which gives us a much better understanding of the film’s plot, characters and look. Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao is at the helm of this title, and it shows beautifully in the footage we see here.

Previous trailers have been mostly vague about the plot and whole new cast of characters that are introduced. Now, however, we can see glimpses of the powers that these immortals possess, which range from teleportation to transmutation. Led by Ikaris (Richard Madden) alongside Sersi (Gemma Chan), the Eternals have lived alongside humans for thousands of years, though never interfering or stopping major conflicts or natural disasters.

This time, though, they are all teaming up to fight off a threat known as the Deviants led by General Kro (seen above). And they need all the help they can get, assembling the others of their kind. This includes Thena (Angelina Jolie), Ajak (Salma Hayek), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), Druig (Barry Keoghan), Makkari (Lauren Ridloff), Sprite (Lia McHugh), and Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry).

The film connects to Avengers: Endgame by acknowledging that the reversal of the snap, bringing half of the universe’s population back, unleashed a surge of energy that could now be harnessed by their enemies to destroy the world within seven days. After living on Earth for so long, now they are ready to step up and defend it.

After many delays, “Eternals” is now on track to release only in theaters on Nov. 5. However, after recent low box office numbers, it’s possible Disney may choose to alter their theatrical-only plan.

Marvel’s next release, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” will release Sept. 3 in theaters, and will be a good indicator on whether or not the box office is truly returning to form.
