South Korean Thriller “Killing Romance” Set to Open New York Asian Film Festival

Excitement is building among film enthusiasts as one of South Korea’s most buzz-worthy movies of the year Killing Romance is slated to open the New York Asian Film Festival. Running from July 14th to July 30th, the festival will provide American audiences with their first opportunity to experience this highly creative and genre-bending story.

While Killing Romance has already captivated Korean viewers since its release on April 14th, this premiere marks the film’s debut in the United States. Critics have heaped praise on the movie for its imaginative storytelling and multi-genre approach, adding to the anticipation surrounding its international release.

The plot revolves around a remarkably talented and stunning actress, portrayed by Le Ha-nee, who willingly sacrifices her fame in pursuit of what she believed would be a fulfilling married life. However, as she realizes that her future falls short of her expectations, she embarks on a journey back to the silver screen. Along the way, she joins forces with a devoted fan to concoct a sinister plan to murder her wealthy husband.

Director Lee Won-suk, renowned for his work on How to Use Guys With Secret Tips, will grace the opening night of the festival alongside the film’s leading actor Lee Sun-kyun, known for his role in the critically acclaimed film Parasite.

Killing Romance was produced by Film Studio Ichang and Shortcake and initially premiered in Korean theaters through Lotte Entertainment. Notably, this film served as the final project released by Warner Bros. Korea before the closure of its production office, adding an additional layer of significance to its screening at the festival.

The New York Asian Film Festival will take place at the Lincoln Center and will feature a diverse lineup of over 60 films, accompanied by live events. The festival is expected to draw an estimated audience of around 12,000 passionate cinephiles eager to explore the rich tapestry of Asian cinema.
