Amidst a rise in COVID-19 cases and U.S. theaters closing left and right, Sony Pictures Classics has decided to delay a few of their upcoming films, including The Father, which stars Silence of the Lambs’ Anthony Hopkins and The Favourite star Olivia Colman.
The film follows an aging man struggling with dementia as his daughter moves in to help take care of him. The Father was supposed to release in just a few weeks on December 18, but now has been pushed back to February 26, 2021.
Sony Pictures also delayed The Truffle Hunters, a documentary that follows a group of men in the woods of Northern Italy as they search for the Alba truffle. The film, which received acclaim at the Sundance, Toronto and New York film festivals, will now be released on March 12, 2021.
I Carry You with Me, which tells the story of two Mexican men who fall in love and emigrate to America to build a new life, was the final film delayed by Sony Pictures. It was pushed from its January 8, 2021 release, and is now eyeing a release in spring 2021.
According to Sony Pictures Classics, all three films will still qualify for consideration for the 2020 year-end awards and lists.
