Sony has announced plans to move forward with a Django/Zorro film. The film will be a continuation of the 7-issue comic book series written by Quentin Tarantino and Matt Wagner. The comic book was released in 2014, two years after Django Unchained. Quentin Tarantino is not attached to this upcoming film, but he has reportedly given his blessing to the film.
Brian Helgeland (Mystic River) is slated to write the script for the film, but as of now, there is nobody else attached to the film. The film is expected to follow a younger Zorro, so it is unlikely for Anthony Hopkins or Antonio Banderas to reprise their roles from 1998’s The Mask of Zorro. It is unclear if Jamie Foxx will return to his character of Django. Quentin Tarantino still plans to make a final, tenth film for Sony, but at this point, it is unclear what that will shape up to be. He penned the script for The Adventures of Cliff Booth to direct but ultimately passed that script off. He also planned to direct a film called “The Movie Critic” at one point but also backed out of that.
So, we may not be getting any Quentin Tarantino anytime soon, but maybe one of his characters, Django, will show up sooner rather than later.
